Both positions require proficiency in basic copper termination skills and the installation of work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting faceplates, and surface mount boxes correctly while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards. Building closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware, along with grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required, are also key duties. Completing all IDC connections, performing various testing methods, troubleshooting using an OTDR, and executing both mechanical and fusion splicing across all types of fiber cable are essential tasks.
The Lead Fiber Optic Technician, in addition to sharing these responsibilities, is tasked with leading major project crews, ensuring adherence to safety and quality guidelines, coordinating with Project Managers to ensure productivity and compliance with project budgets, and providing necessary training to team members.
