What will you do as a Fiber Optic Technician at our IES Communications' Phoenix Branch?

At our Phoenix branch, the roles of Fiber Optic Technician and Lead Fiber Optic Technician involve a comprehensive set of responsibilities centered around cabling and termination. Both positions require proficiency in basic copper termination skills and the installation of work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks and mounting faceplates and surface mount boxes correctly while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS' labeling standards. Additionally, these technicians are tasked with building closets, which involves mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware, as well as installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.

A significant aspect of their job is to complete all IDC connections, perform testing (including continuity tests and troubleshooting with an OTDR), and manage splicing tasks, both mechanical and fusion, across various types of fiber cable. The Lead Fiber Optic Technician, in particular, takes on a more pivotal role by running major project crews, ensuring adherence to safety and quality guidelines, coordinating with Project Managers to ensure productivity and compliance with project budgets, and providing necessary training.
