What will you do as a Fiber Optic Technician at our IES Communications' Altoona Branch?
At our Altoona branch, the Fiber Optic Technician and Lead Fiber Optic Technician roles are pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of cabling and termination. Both positions require proficiency in basic copper termination skills and expertise in installing work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting faceplates, and surface mount boxes correctly while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards. Building closets, mounting backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, grounding equipment, and completing all IDC connections are fundamental duties. They perform testing and troubleshooting using tools like OTDR and Fluke DTX 180, manage continuity tests, and address cable issues. The installation of various connectors and the termination of both indoor and outdoor plant fibers are within their purview, alongside calculating loss budgets according to TIA/EIA standards. Our technicians excel in splicing techniques, whether mechanical or fusion, ensuring seamless connectivity. Leadership in the Lead Technician role involves running project crews, ensuring safety, quality adherence, coordinating with Project Managers for productivity and compliance, and providing necessary training. Completing paperwork accurately and on time is a shared responsibility, underlining our commitment to excellence and efficiency in every task we undertake at the Altoona branch.
