What will you do as a Fiber Optic Technician at our IES Communications' Raleigh Branch?
At our Raleigh branch, the roles of Fiber Optic Technician and Lead Fiber Optic Technician encompass a broad range of responsibilities focused on cabling and termination. Both positions require proficiency in basic copper termination skills and the installation of work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting faceplates, and surface mount boxes correctly while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards. Building closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware is also key, alongside grounding installations for racks, equipment, and cable as necessary. Completing all IDC connections, performing various testing procedures using tools like an OTDR and Fluke DTX 180, troubleshooting with an OTDR network-wide, and executing both mechanical and fusion splicing across all types of fiber cable are critical duties. Additionally, these roles involve calculating end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode & single-mode fiber, installing fan-out kits including buffer tube, and ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and on time. The Lead Fiber Technician distinguishes themselves by consistently running major project crews, assuming responsibility for their performance and safety, providing necessary training, coordinating with Project Managers to ensure productivity and job completion within budget, and initiating performance-related communications.
