What will you do as a Fiber Optic Technician at our IES Communications' Cleveland Branch?
At our Cleveland branch, the Fiber Optic Technician and Lead Fiber Optic Technician roles encompass a comprehensive set of duties focused on cabling and termination. Both positions require proficiency in basic copper termination skills, installation of work area outlets for floors, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting faceplates, and surface mount boxes correctly while adhering to IES COMMUNICATIONS labeling standards. Technicians are responsible for building closets, installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required, completing all IDC connections, performing various testing and troubleshooting tasks using tools like OTDR and Fluke DTX 180, and executing both mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable. Additionally, they handle the termination and breakout of outside plant (loose tube) fiber and indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber, install fan-out kits, calculate end-to-end loss budgets following TIA/EIA standards, and complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time. The Lead Fiber Technician also takes on responsibilities for running major project crews, ensuring adherence to safety and quality guidelines, coordinating with Project Managers to ensure productivity and job completion within budget, and providing necessary training to team members.
